Klaxons vs. Grace
I love cover versions: the Klaxons' cover of the 90s dance band Grace's Not Over Yet. Who does it better? Klaxons, above, or the brilliant Grace below. I love the original but there's no doubting the Klaxons' version has some killerbee synth riffs in there. The original was released in 1995 and reached #6 on the charts. It was remixed and re-released by Paul Oakenfold in 1999 too, and there is apparently a February 2008 Goldfrapp cover kicking about too, courtesy of Jo Wiley's Live Lounge.

ABBA via Erasure
Take a Chance on Me by Erasure (ABBA cover).
Voulez Vous by Erasure (ABBA cover).
Lay All Your Love on Me by Erasure (ABBA cover). Maybe one has to have a very nuanced ear to hear this, but I swear to God Erasure's version of this song reminds me of that Biffy Clyro track, Who's Got a Match?. It literally has the same beat right before the "I'm a fire/and I'll burn, burn, burn tonight" bit. Obviously I'm not comparing the genius of ABBA/Erasure to a song which includes lyrics such as: "The midget is frigid/I put it to you". Incidentally, because of similarities to ABBA's original Lay Your Love on Me, they have a co-writing credit on the Venga Boys' Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom.

Probably my favourite ever Cure song, though it is a hard choice indeed.
Erasure - Love to Hate You
Brilliant song, even if the bass has badly ripped off Gloria Gaynor. The lyrics make up for the plagiarism. "And the lovers that you sent for me/didn't come with any satisfaction guarantee", "I like to read a murder mystery/I like to know the killer isn't me".
Brought Ya New Order
A great live performance of Age of Consent by New Order. Given that Age of Consent is probably my favourite song of all time, ever, I was always going to like this, but the rolled up sleeves and great spliff-vision 80s camerawork and crappy coloured filters just make it. Recorded at the London Brixton Academy, 4th April 1987.
Again, what with Age of Consent being quite possibly the best crafted song ever, I usually feel that cover artists are apostates when it comes to New Order. But, also being a massive fan of the ukelele, or as I like to call it, awwwcuteminiguitar, I had to listen to this guy's uke rendition of Age of Consent. And it ain't half bad. He doesn't get the opening riff down at all, but it is charming still. I sort of want to marry him in fact. New Order live on.
