Album artwork for debut LP, 2008.Shuv it by Santogold. Great beat and wonderful lyrics. Not heard anything bad by this girl yet. Find a Way by Santogold. I think this song is a warning sign rallying call railing against a serially abusive boyfriend and one pushing drugs on his girlfriend. Basically a bad news douche. The Creator by Santogold. Haha, the introduction to this sounds like something from the Sims 2! Brilliant. "Got no need for the fancy things/all the attention that it brings/tell me no/I say yes - I was chosen/and I will bring the explosion". "Me I'm a creator/thrill is to make it up/the rules I break got me a place up on the radar/me I'm a taker; know what the stakes are/can't roll it back it's understood got to play our cards".
Absolute superb pop tune by Santogold, L.E.S Artistes. Such a brilliant bass riff. Very cool video reminds me of Bat for Lashes' video for What's a Girl to Do. Santogold clearly wants to be wary of the nu-rave clingy indie crowd of bandwagon joy riders: "If you see me keep going be a passerby waver/build me up bring me down/just leave me out you name dropper/stop trying to catch my eye/I see you good you forced faker/just make it easy you're my enemy you fast talker", "I can say I hope/it will be worth what I give up/if I can stand up - me/for all the things that I believe", "What am I here for?/I left my home to disappear is all/I'm here for myself/not to know you/I don't need no one else".
Drivin' Me Wild by Common feat. Lily Allen
Hottie Common with Lily Allen, Drivin' me Wild. Great melody and pop culture referencing lyrics. Even a name check with Ryan Phillippe. And great twist to Ok Go!'s legendary video. Reminds me of old style early 90s fun hip hop beats, those from Dr. Dr and Wu Tang Clan. "She was the type who watches Oprah and the Today Show/be on the treadmill like Ok Go!"
Homecoming by Kanye West et Chris Martin
I like Kanye's outfit in this video, great scarf and belt in particular. And of course Common is a hottie. I think this track is Common produced. And, 'hem, Chris Martin is also hottie material.

Great song. Estelle's b-side Freedom remixed by John Legend and featuring Talib Kweli. This was from back in the early 2000s, before the American Boy era. Really great song. Laid back beats, good message. "Now we're making change/but it still hasn't changed".

Doc Brown Freestyles
Great freestyle rapping by British rapper Doc Brown. Recorded for ESPN. Doc Brown is the younger brother of the novelist Zadie Smith, and the elder brother of the rapper Luc Skyz. He also did a brilliant remix of Mad World. Love this freestyle rap. "Name another sport that can capture imaginations/bring together races"."It's the love of the sport/from goalie gloves to shorts/to mud stuck all on your studs/and much more".
Classic Kanye
I really like this video, think it is very intelligently and interestingly done, with the camera-as-eye view. Reminds me of a hip-hop version of Peep Show. Great song too. I don't know why Lauryn Hill refused to be sampled by Kanye (the chorus is ripped off Mystery of Inquity). Fuck her, it's better with Selena on it. Some really good lyrics: "the prettiest people/do the ugliest of things", "I promise/I'm so self concious/that's why you always see me/with at least one of my watches", "single black female/addicted to retail", "We buy our way out of jail/but we can't buy freedom/we buy a lot of clothes/but we don't really need 'em", "they made us hate ourselves/but love they wealth".
