In amongst all the brouhaha about Daniel Radcliffe getting his kit off for Peter Shaffer's play Equus was this well designed and innovative poster for the play. Great seamless transition from adolescent torso into horse's nose, who would have thought? Great graphic design, and the flickering scan lines add an eerie quality. This horse reminds me of the horse in The Ring.
I really, really love the concept of this poster and think it is a smart idea, but I do think it could have been better executed. Great idea but for a start I think the letter should be more spaced out like realistic eye test boards, and I also think the poster should allow for more lines. For instance, it needs to be clear cut to the viewer straight away the gimmick and cleverness of the ad, and because of the type font I and layout of the title I don't think this is necessarily true. I would have had the letters spaced further apart and B on its own line, then LI, then NDN and finally ESS. Would have made it more obvious and eye catching I feel. Still nice design. The film will open at Cannes 2008 and stars Julianne Moore.
Above is the original 1995 poster for Toy Story. I remember going to see the film sitting on the very back row in Edge Lane, Liverpool with family friends. It was exciting and a new visual experience. I loved it. And the Pixar short films previewing.Below is an article written by Emily Barr for the Guardian, on how kids' films no longer cater to just those who are in single figures, but contrary to that, most of the jokes go over the children's heads and are aimed at sniggering adults. Her rallying cry is one to bring back the innocence to children's films in a world where film might be the only escape from danger and uncertainty.

'What would you like to do in half term?" I asked my six-year-old recently. His eyes lit up. "Is the Ben 10 movie at the cinema?" he asked. Ben 10 is a cartoon character who is merchandised to the hilt. I cannot move in our house for tripping over one of his 10 superheroic alter egos. The Ben 10 movie, Race Against Time, was heavily trailed to Gabe's age group at the end of last year, and I was relieved to discover that it was just a TV movie.
Best promotional poster I have seen in a while, great graphic design. Reminds me of Jonathan Safran-Foer's gray818 designed cover for Everything is Illuminated, in that both designs incooporate the boring small print (in JSF's case, the barcode and in the 27 Dresses case the studio information) into a crucial part of the design. This is what sets both designs apart. Also, with the 27 dresses, it is thematically aesthetitised obviously. Need to find out who worked on it. They even took the design promo further, on the red carpet:
